82

My hair's pretty long now, just want it to be even more thicker.

Totally forgot about this space again. My bad.

It's 1.20am on Monday and in 5 hours I should be up to get ready for school - a routine I dread every weekday.

This weekend had been pretty chill, just the way I like it. Except for the fact that I've been working on my assignments. Patience, and persevere - I always tell myself, but I always end up feeling restless at home staring at all my lecture notes. I'd sweep everything aside and head out.

I'm beginning to feel that procrastinating may be my one and only talent.

Anyway last weekend was my long-awaited 18th birthday weekend. I didn't really know what to do for my 18th for the longest time. I didn't really want to do the very cliched thing of birthday bashes at some crowded club, or hotel room, I wanted something that was entirely liberating and new. At the same time, it had to be perfect for me and only me. I didn't care how selfish that sounds because heck, I deserve a damn good time!

Weeks before that weekend I heard about Urbanscapes in KL on the 24th and 25th of November(My birthday). I was completely drawn because it featured acts such as YUNA, SIGUR ROS, THE TREES AND THE WILD and WHITE SHOES AND THE COUPLES COMPANY, and the prices for the tickets for both days were SO worth it!

I missed Yuna in Singapore because I couldn't afford tickets and I had just gotten a single ticket for Sigur Ros' show in Singapore. Contemplated whether I should've gone to Sigur Ros' gig in Singapore alone or sold the ticket to buy tickets for Urbanscapes. Obviously I chose the latter! Amrien wanted to head to Urbanscapes too, so we were both really excited.

Thought I'd be paying for my own ticket but Amrien surprised me when he said he got the ticket for me as a birthday gift. I think that was really sweet, and noone's ever gotten me tickets to music festivals before. I've always gotten tickets to these things myself. This boy really knows what I really really like.

So we left Singapore on 23 November, Friday night. It was my first time going out of the country for a music festival with a boyfriend.

Arrived at 4am on the 24th of November, and we walked around for a hotel to stay in for the weekend. It felt almost surreal how we were in KL for my birthday weekend somehow.

Checked into a nice little hotel in Bukit Bintang, but we couldn't really sleep because we were too excited! We ended up missing our complementary breakfast too.

In the afternoon, we walked around the area for awhile before heading to Petaling Jaya for the festival.

I didn't manage to take much pictures of the place because I was too busy taking in the awesomeness of it all. The atmosphere was amazing, and everything was perfect. The place where it's held, Padang Astaka, was really really muddy.

On the first day, Amrien and I came in our Chuck Taylor's and after walking around the flea market we went back to the hotel and changed to slippers. Walking around the field to get from stage-to-stage and stall-to-stall without stepping in mud was impossible!

When we arrived for the second time, we kept our slippers in our bags and walked around barefoot. People were doing the same thing to avoid dirtying their shoes. Some people even had rubber boots on!

I managed to meet some of my friends at the festival. Nass, an old friend, came alone. So Amrien and I hung out with him at the festival and even had supper after Day 1. Fiz and his friends also went to the festival and we bumped into them as we were leaving for KL.

I also got to meet Syamly whom I met during my skate trip to KL and also Miriam, an old Chilli Padi!

Day 1 featured really entertaining artistes, but the highlight was Yuna. She's really amazing.

As the day ended and Amrien and I were heading back to our hotel, we walked past this little boy on the streets selling flowers. Amrien let go of my hand and walked back to the boy and got one for me.

"Here you go, Azimah. Happy birthday and I love you."

I died.

It was so embarrassing because we were at a busy street in Bukit Bintang in the middle of multiple food joints filled with a lot of people! One random man even yelled, "OH SAYANG OH!"

That was really sweet, but really really embarrassing. Haha!

Day 2 was even better.

We went to the festival a little later than the day before because we thought we'd celebrate my birthday a little bit beforehand. Satisfied our cravings for Kenny Rogers Roasters and we each got new kicks! The boy also got me a pair of Emerica sneakers, they're really pretty. Amrien also got to meet his local friends who mended the Krookz skateshop and Deciders.

There was this booth where they'd film a video of you doing whatever for 10 seconds, and they'll make the video into a little flipbook. Amrien and I got it done, and it was worth every ringgit. Maybe I'll upload a gif of it soon! We were given all sorts of props and stuff. It was really cool.

When Sigur Ros played it was such a dream come true. I swear I got lost in Jonsi's voice despite the humidity and itchy dried up mud all over my legs. I closed my eyes and it felt like I was the only person there and I was right where I was supposed to be the day I turned 18.

And just as I had wildly imagined time and time before, Sigur Ros and the audience sang a birthday song. Well, it wasn't really for me, it was for one of the back up vocalists. Nonetheless, everything just felt so right. It was impossible to not tear up as I stood watching them.

To top everything off, the festival ended off with fireworks right after Sigur Ros' set.

Amrien and I just stood there watching the beauty of it all, in the middle of a field, far away from home with our fingers entertwined. We turned to each other and he smiled at me, his face half illuminated by the exploding fireworks display. I smiled back, and kissed him on the cheek.

I couldn't ask for a more perfect way to spend my 18th birthday. I couldn't ask for a more perfect person to spend it with.

xx
